Tour of KwaZulu-Natal - lesser known sites

  • Day 1:
    The tour begins in Durban and heads along the coast to visit Fort Pearson and the Ultimatum Tree, followed by the battlefields of Gingindlovu and Nyezane. We then visit Fort kwaMondi near Eshowe, the monument to King Cetshwayo in Eshowe, and end the day at Mandawo the hill that overlooks Odwini (the Hornet's Nest) and the birthplace of Zulu. Overnight at Eshowe.
  • Day 2:
    Today we begin by visiting King Cetshwayo's monument in Eshowe before (Time Permitting) moving on Mome Gorge, the site of the Bhambatha Rebellion of 1906. From there we will take a picturesque drive through the Nkandla Forest to Ithala and Fort Prospect. Overnight at Babanango.
  • Day 3:
    Today we visit Hlobane, Khambula and Ntombe Drift before we overnight at Vryheid.
  • Day 4:
    This morning we head on to Ondini and the battle of Ulundi where Lord Chelmsford dealt a mortal blow to the Zulu nation on 4 July 1879. In the afternoon we will enjoy a leisurely game drive through the nearby Hluhluwe / iMfolozi Park before we overnight at Ulundi at a delightful bush camp.
  • Day 5:
    Return to Durban to either connect with a flight home or enjoy a holiday extension in South Africa.
